SAMHAIN-2011 FOLK FEST
Samhain fest is lively and vibrant annual event since 2005. Every year during Samhain/Halloween weekend many people gather at all kinds of traditional and folk-rock events. Irish traditional current is particularly strong as various concerts and sessions take place at Moscow’s pubs and clubs. This is greatly helped by many outstanding Irish musicians coming to deliver genuine Irish craic to Moscovites. John Carthy, Joe Burk and many others contributed to painting the day green rather than pumpkin-orange.
This year Moscow’s best musicians and bands performing Irish traditional music will come onstage supported by fellow dancers from Irish and Scottish dancing schools. Welcoming doors of Mezzo Forte club will be open whole night through to accommodate every music and dance lover of the town and the bar-staff is already getting ready to supply refreshments and a drop for those who are tired.
In recent years set dancing became an integral part of Russian-Irish folk events. Dancers get together to beat a step and have a go at Clare Lancers, Cashel and other sets. Irish set dancing teachers remark (sometimes with considerable surprise) on Russians’ enthusiasm and aptitude to the matter. Indeed, the set list of typical Moscow ceili can easily match that of Miltown Malbay’s.
